There's a stretch of river in the southwestern corner of Missouri that gets busy every summer in a way that doesn't quite fit the rest of the Ozarks narrative. The Elk River — running through McDonald County from the Arkansas line up through Noel and Pineville before crossing into Kansas — draws float trippers, kayakers, and tubers from across the region every year. Float trip culture on the Elk River is the good kind of regional tradition — unhurried, outdoor-focused, the kind of thing that requires nothing more than a canoe or an inner tube and a willingness to spend a day moving slowly through the Ozark hills. The outfitters along the river have been operating for decades. The campgrounds fill up on summer weekends. And the communities along the corridor — Noel, Pineville, Southwest City — have built their summer economies around the visitors who come to be on the water.
We're expanding into McDonald County because it's the natural next step from NWA. But we're also doing it because the Ozarks are home — and that includes the Missouri side of the state line.
The Ozark Identity
Outbound operates in Northwest Arkansas but the Ozarks don't stop at the state line. The terrain, the character, the culture — the hills that define the landscape in Benton and Washington Counties continue north into McDonald County and the rest of the Missouri Ozarks without interruption. The rivers are the same rivers. The rural property character is the same character. We started talking about Outbound as an Ozark company because it's true — we're not a national brand that decided NWA was a market worth entering. We're from here, and "here" extends into the Missouri Ozarks as naturally as the Elk River flows north from Arkansas into McDonald County.
